Energy standing charges
I’ve been doing my calculations with my Eon tariffs.
I thought I was on to a winner with a 1 year fix. My electricity p/KWh would rise to 29% more and my gas to 36% more.
Then I looked at the standing charges. 😳
My electric would increase by 65% and gas 62% for the standing charges alone.
I still cannot make a decision as to what’s best.

Standing charges make up a miniscule portion of the bill for an average user.0

Compare the total cost for kWh and standing charge for both tariffs using your estimated annual use...Meeeeee said:I’ve been doing my calculations with my Eon tariffs.

I don't think circa £180 per year is considered 'miniscule' and I would consider myself an average user.emmajones1976 said:Standing charges make up a miniscule portion of the bill for an average user.0 -
It is "miniscule" if you are an average user. Thats not even 15% of what OFGEM consider "average".tsb said:

Clearly your definition of miniscule is completely different to mine. A 15% reduction of the energy costs would be well worth having at any time not just now.0 -
Its a miniscule portion of the overall bill, the word minuscule meaning "tiny". 15% is tiny.0

No, 1% or 2% even 5% is tiny, 15% is not tiny.emmajones1976 said:Its a miniscule portion of the overall bill, the word minuscule meaning "tiny". 15% is tiny.
If your energy provider increased your bill today by 15% would you think it was a tiny increase?1 -
Thats a totally different argument. My point was that standing charges makes up a miniscule portion of the energy bill. You wont change my mind on this btw so we can go round in circles all day.0

Why is that a different argument? You are saying 15% is miniscule, I'm just disagreeing.0
