Synology NAS server DS220j

I've recently upgraded to a Synology server from a WD MyCloud Mirror which has a backup system WD Smartware.
Is there a free backup program for my new Synology server that would work like the WD Smartware, or be better?
Thanks

Doesn't Synology provide a backup utility?
  • As above the synology device has a built in backup application that will allow you to back it up to another nas, external USB device or a cloud storage provider.

If you are referring to software that will backup from your PC to the NAS then you have a large choice as it doesn’t need to be Synology specific. Even in built windows backup or file history will do the trick.

Make sure you backup your NAS.

    Many thanks, that's interesting.
I have no idea how the NAS device itself backed up - I assume I'd have to pay for some cloud based backup?

Cloud based or another NAS etc.

I only backup the important personal folders, media can be replaced, a little time consuming but I would need a ton
of extra storage to backup all that data.

Synology's Cloudsync app lets you back up to the usual suspects (onedrive, google drive drop box etc)
