do card purchases expire?

I need a bit of advice.
I've recently received a Barclaycard VISA CC statement (June 05) which shows a purchase (hotel stay) from Dec 04. Whilst this is a valid charge, it is a little late at showing up on my card.
My question really is - do retailers/CC companies have a maximum time period in which they can actually claim the payment for purchases? Do my signed CC slips expire after x months if not claimed?
I seem to recall that a bank cheque needs to be claimed within 3 months of being issues/signed/dated - but I maybe wrong.
Just wondered if there is anything similar with CC purchases?
Thanks

No. Once authorised the payment can be claimed at any time, even if you close the account. If there is a limit, it is certainly in the years (5+) rather than months.0

With a UK bank cheque it's 6 months from the date on the cheque, unless there's something printed on the cheque that alters it. I'm pretty sure the 6 month limit applies to a card transaction you authorise as well, it's certainly not as long as 5 years.marko wrote:I seem to recall that a bank cheque needs to be claimed within 3 months of being issues/signed/dated0
