@Parking_Eyerate -  I don't necessarily disagree with you.  In fact I did agree with you in the vaping/mattress thread.

As I said, I'm not 100% convinced regarding the argument about the purpose or intent of the packaging or sealing being relevant.

The OP has nothing to lose by running the argument past HofF.  I doubt they understnd the law anyway.
  • OP Parcelforce will easily take 3.7kg and that should cost less than £27.

If you book on their site I think (although double check) £100 compensation is given. Worth noting £200 worth of goods to you is not worth £200 to the company and in any event the trader should refund as per the below meaning the refund is not link to the receipt of the goods by the trader.

    https://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2013/3134/regulation/34

    (5) If the contract is a sales contract and the trader has not offered to collect the goods, the time is the end of 14 days after—

(a)the day on which the trader receives the goods back, or

(b)if earlier, the day on which the consumer supplies evidence of having sent the goods back.

    (6) Otherwise, the time is the end of 14 days after the day on which the trader is informed of the consumer's decision to withdraw the offer or cancel the contract, in accordance with regulation

  • Unfortunately, I was also duped by this same situation, I assumed I had purchased a great deal online at House of Fraser on some boots which had been reduced to £62.00 from almost £200, they are absolutely gorgeous but too narrow
I was startled when I realised that H of F doesn't offer free delivery on returns. I am now stuck with a huge heavy box which will probably cost me more than half the price of the knee high boots to return

(Concerning the sticker's function - in the past I think some swimwear that could be tried on in shops had such stickers.)

Way back in my youth - I recall dressing rooms in stores having signs to the effect that "swimwear should be tried on over a foundation garment".    Some years later - I discovered what that meant  :)

The same point needs to be made - either on a sticker - or clearly on the bag if said bag is supposed to be a seal.
I need to think of something new here...

If you do the return through their portal they set the return price so it may not be as bad as if you had to pay Royal Mail (or whomever) directly.

    With Royal Mail a medium parcel (61 x 46 x 46cm) up to 2kg is £5.35 fully tracked (48) with £100 compensation.

If it's over 2kg the price for that service goes up to £6.95 for up to 10kg.

Perhaps not a bargain but certainly nowhere near £31 :)
