New tariff

Just been offered a new fixed tariff from British Gas for duel fuel for 1yr at £1660/yr or £138/ mth, does anyone think that this is a good deal.

  • The amounts are meaningless. Tell us what the unit rates are.
  • some people will; some people wont. Depending on the tariff and annual usage you'll be able to work it out for yourself.

If incorrect estimated usage is used then the DD will be altered accordingly so the DD amount is never a good figure to base your decision on.
  • Hi emma unit rates are gas7.091p  standing charge 31.603
    electricity 31.450p unit rate
    Standing charge 32.305p
  • No, that looks terrible, its not much different to what the electric cap is predicted to go to in April, so why tie yourself into that for an extra few months?
  • standing charge seems a bit steep but the unit rates look good

    BG current rates are (roughly) Gas 3.9  & 26.1 electric 20 & 26.8

    Assume in April they go up by 50% - Gas 5.9 & 39.2 Electric 30 & 40.2

If there's no exit fees - I'd maybe fix - but not until my current fix ends...

So going off your own maths you are advising him to fix at rates 1.5p (electric) per unit and 1.1p per unit (gas) HIGHER than the April capped rate is likely to be, two months before it comes in, at a time people are using the most gas and electric?

Have we entered a parallel universe here?

If these fixed rates are indeed the same as the April cap you would protect yourself for an entire winter period following the October price rise

tbh I wouldn't be surprised if gas goes up by 100% so 8p/unit, which then some of the fixes look quite desirable as some fixes are quoting gas at 9 and10p/unit !
