Inflated RRPs

Just a bit of a rant. How on Earth do companies get away with inflated RRPs? Sometimes the RRP is over double the item's normal selling price.

Easy enough to put an item on sale for the required time period at RRP .

There is no required time period. The rules changed a few years back and now the retailer just has to show how they are not aiming to mislead customers. But unless anyone actually takes it to court I don't think much gets doen.JJ_Egan said:Easy enough to put an item on sale for the required time period at RRP .
More on the guidance here No more "28 day" rule – pricing and promotions under the spotlight | marketinglaw (osborneclarke.com)
and on RRP use Prices: Recommended retail prices (RRPs) - ASA | CAP
If it is on an advert then the OP should complain to the ASA if they think it is misleading.2 -
I have made a few complaints to the ASA already. Checked a few weeks later and the retailers still have inflated RRPs.jon81uk said:

In my opinion they should have the power to fine repeat offenders. I’m amazed they don’t already.Checked the second link you put and it mentions “generally sold” price. No way the products are “generally sold” at that price.0 -
I've had to stop referring to RRPs in my business because they've become meaningless! When you're looking at a product that every shop in the country is selling for £3000 and the RRP is supposedly £5000 it's just pointless.
