and if anybody is paranoid about the people selling these locks online turning up and burgling you weeks later (with a copy of the key)
just get a friend to order it to a different address so they don't know where to go!
I did that once. Paid on my credit card, so had to indicate my billing address. The goods were sent to the delivery address, but the invoice inside had my billing address on it!

That's why you need to "get a friend to order it" rather than just order it yourself with a different delivery address! ;-)

Or go into a locksmith and buy it over the counter with cash - maybe I'm just living in the past! :)

    Thanks for the tips guys.

I just went to the other Timspson. The guy there is much older and looks experienced and was a proper shop as well.

I tried them out when I got back and they work!

They are slightly imperfect in that I have to have them out of the keyhole about 1mm for them to turn, but I think this is good enough for this saga.

And re buying a new cylinder - that is a good idea, I will take note for next time,

    Thanks,

That cut key is obviously way off, you don't even have to look hard to see the faults, they are in your face.  If that is the acceptable standard from that particular cutter they shouldn't be doing that job.  Having to have it out of the lock slightly means they didn't line it up in the machine correctly.  Our local Timpsons cut 10 keys for 2 Euro locks and all are perfect - and they don't look like a dog has chewed them as in your picture !.
