Settle a liability debate?

Shunts are slightly different because there will always be the question of the sequencing... did car 2 hit the rear of car 1 and then car 3 hit rear of car 2 or did car 3 hit car 2 and push them into car 1
In these circumstances are car 1 is effectively an independent witness and how many "bumps" they felt, in the absence of CCTV/Dashcam is a good yard stick if the other two parties dont agree what happened.1 -
Sure, with no dash cam footage that could well happen. Even if the BMW behind is on your bumper and are at fault for not leaving space, if you brake check them and they crash or report you and have footage of you doing it, plod may well come and have a word with you and insurer might well be less favourablescrappy_returns said:I know people that have brake checked others and taken no liability from the resulting crash.1 -
So are you saying if it's unsafe to stop you should run over the pedestrians?sevenhills said:Flight3287462 said:This type of shunt will become more common when cars (that don't indicate left) stop to let a pedestrian cross the road.MSM, meaning that you should check your mirrors before doing a manoeuvre, so you should only stop if it's safe to do so.Although the driver in front cannot read minds.1 -
An emergency stop is one manoeuvre where MSM is not appropriate.sevenhills said:Flight3287462 said:This type of shunt will become more common when cars (that don't indicate left) stop to let a pedestrian cross the road.MSM, meaning that you should check your mirrors before doing a manoeuvre, so you should only stop if it's safe to do so.Although the driver in front cannot read minds.1 -
No, not could well happen, it's happened. No questions asked by either party insurers. Settled in less than 16hours, no police interest. With dash cam footage it could well be different but that's not something I know about.Deleted_User said:

Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.2 -
I’m an optimist. Or deluded. One or the other.EssexExile said:You've come onto an internet forum to settle a debate?

All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.3 -
I had something very similar, the cop taking our statement pretty much wrote the statement himself, nothing more was heard on the matter.eamon said:Some years ago I was in a 4 car shunt on a M Way. I was car number 2 & car No 4 was found to be at fault. Cars 3 & 4 had the most damage.0 -
That's what I said, it could well happen that someone gets away with it. The number of cars with dash cams now though, means there is a very good chance that brake checking someone will be caught by the person behind or a witnessscrappy_returns said:
