Avios Q: using Avios to upgrade to a oneworld partner

Hi all.
Missus and I have over the years banked a good few Avios points but never used them. We're due to be silver a bit later this year for an upcoming trip (have about 300k pts). We're hoping to visit Japan for 4-6 weeks next March. Looks like booking direct with BA will be with Japan Airlines for the flight between Lon and Tokyo.
Q: Can we upgrade (to Club, say, from WTP) using Avios with any of oneworld's partners/airlines or is trickier than that, or worse, only BA?
Q2: If you book eco for a long haul, and the aircraft doesn't have Prem Eco (normally how we like to fly long haul), are you automatically upgraded to Biz?
Know a few of you are in the know about these anything Avios. TIA if anyone can clarify.
