Desktop is a Cube DESKTOP-1R813P6.
Upgraded to an SSD so that side of it still works fine.
I'm getting an intermittent issue with loud whirring noise although the desktop boots up ok. Just wondering if this might be something like the fan considering giving up the ghost and whether I should be looking at it now rather than waiting for it to die completely?
If so, please bear in mind that I'm a bit of a technical numpty - I did manage to replace the hard drive but only with step by step instructions from the kind people on here.
ETA - my brain space tends to be elsewhere during the week so any delay in replies isn't because I'm ignoring anyone.
Thanks

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

Could be really simple, given that you have recently being inside the case, it could just be a wire that is resting on a fan and rubbing on the fan blades.
I'd power it up with the side off the case and try to pinpoint the sound more closely. If you think it is a fan, it won't do any harm to disconnect it for a few minutes just to see if that if the cause.
I assume the old spinning hard disk is no longer in situ? If it is, then could be that.1 -
This is almost always a fan blocked with dust, or the top layer of the heatsink of the processor is choked with dust.Fans that get blocked with dust build up are usually GPU (if present) and/or the CPU.It can be removed with a paint brush.Fans that are giving up the ghost tend to make more of a grinding noise because the bearings have packed up and the lubrication wears off. They'll seize up after a while.1

As said fans overrun can make a fare bit of noise.
due to overheating due to dust build up.
Although not recommended.
I have never had a problem with a grounded box and nozzle using a vacuum to sort out dust along with a suitable brush to dislodge where needed.

Face mask
Vacuum cleaner, not held directly against the components, but between your face and the stirred-up dust, so that it bags it first...
Consider cleaning the thing in a garage, or outside (with it uinplugged) so that you don't end up with all the dust from the machine distributed within the house1 -
There could be more than one fan.
My desktop has three.

I tried searching for Cube DESKTOP-1R813P6 and the only relevant result I found was this thread. 🤷♀️Jenni x1
