Hi has anyone had any experience of being supplied a free gas boiler? Myself and my husband do qualify as we are both disabled, on income support and our boiler is 12+ years old. On doing a google search it seems we can't go directly to the energy suppliers, we have to go to one of numerous people advertising who have contractors available to do the work. I applied to one of these sites and they said that the contractor working for them is 0800 repairs. I have never heard of these??? If I could afford to buy one I would go directly to one of the energy companies. I don't really like to use a company I haven't heard of. I know if it is free some would say to me that I'm at least going to get a new boiler. But its the aftercare I am worried about. This company in particular are rated poor on aftercare.
I don't even know if this is the correct forum to post this.
As I have never applied for grants etc any advice on this matter would be appreciated.

Your local council should be able to offer advice on how to apply for the schemes- some will do it for you and some can even arrange the fitting straightaway and then claim the grant back in arrears! So definitely worth exploring. CAB also do energy advice and could advice of local provision.A common issue is that the boiler is free but the radiators etc require an upgrade in order to have the new boiler. You may also struggle if the boiler is classed as energy efficient already (even if it isn’t working).MFW 2021 #76 £5,145
