Water bonding - new built property

We are getting an EV charger installed in our property and one of the requirement from EV charging company is to show evidence if water supply is bonded. The main supply that comes from outside is via a blue plastic pipe which then connects to a copper pipe with a main water stop of our property.

The other requirement was to check if gas is bonded, which is visible by looking at the gas meter outside.

Our property is fairly new, 2018 built so I am trying to understand if water bonding was missed or not required if incoming water supply is through plastic pipe.

Please advise

Many thanks

    Thanks fenwick468.

I have read on other posts that bonding is required on the main water where plastic and metal pipe joins together.

Is this something missed by the builder’s contractor when house was built.

Looking for a bit of advise so I can get builder to fix this. Its 2018 built property.

    Many thanks

There are still some old-school plumbers or electricians who were trained back in the days when every copper pipe got bonded.  That requirement got dropped several years back.

Only "extraneous conductive parts" now need to be bonded.  An extraneous conductive part is any bit of metal that comes into the property from outside.  A metal gas pipe would be one.  The framework of a steel framed building could also need bonding.

There's no point in bonding a plastic pipe; it's not conductive.

    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.
  • Thanks Ectophile for taking time to respond to my post. This make sense now.

I can point EV charging company to the link you have referred just in case there are still concerns over water bonding.

    Many thanks
