TV with imperfect picture

I've just bought a second hand Panasonic 55 inch TV which is about six years old. I got it for a very good price but the picture is imperfect on screens with lots of one colour, or a light colour as you can see on the picture below.
I've tried adjusting all the settings and nothing seems to influence the degree of visibility of the grid of circles.
Ironically I saw the thing in use at the seller's house, he'd used it as a computer monitor, not for watching TV, and he had a light coloured screen saver that didn't show this effect, so I wonder if there might be scope for me not having to suffer it, but I can't work out how!?

What you are seeing is the individual LED backlights.
Possibly the plastic lenses over each LED have come adrift, and by the fact that it is every single one it seems like it has been badly mishandled at some point or taken apart and not put together properly. Some just have a diffuser, that could be missing or incorrectly inserted.
Best advice is go and get your money back.
That is unless it was incredibly cheap and you have the skills to strip the TV down to repair it.

It was indeed incredibly cheap!0

Mine does something similar but the last person left their Netflix and Amazon signed in, 14 months later those subscriptions have more than covered the cost of the tv!
Mine only shows at the bottom of the screen in light colours so I would see it if watching the skiing but for most things its unnoticeable but I will use it as an excuse to justify buying a bigger one soon.0 -
OP here
Interestingly, I've just done a self-test via the TVs menus and although it didn't say anything was wrong, the problem is now less obvious, but still there to a degree0 -
tbh if it was incredibly cheap then you now know why.. If summat seems to good to be true then it probably is.Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0

I wouldn't have bought a second hand telly in the first place though. Not worth the hassle. Please note - taken from the Forum Rules and amended for my own personal use (with thanks) : It is up to you to investigate, check, double-check and check yet again before you make any decisions or take any action based on any information you glean from any of my posts. Well thanks very much for telling me how ashamed I should be for selling a defective item for a profit but I put an ad on Facebook with full details of the TV, photos of its fault, a description of its fault - and the photos of the fault actually made it look worse than it was!
I suggested that it was important that anyone interested in buying it should come and see it to satisfy themself that they could live with the fault. Someone came and was happy that they could live with it, took it away very happy that they'd got what they needed at a good price.2
