TadleyBaggie   "That isn't maths, it's simple arithmetic."   Now im sorted i can laugh at that. thank you.

Sadly, it is slightly more complicated than the calculator above suggests as the calorific value of the gas supplied to your property varies by the day. It follows that the supplier may end up with a slightly different kWh figure as it has to use the average calorific value of the gas supplied to your home for the billing period truncated to one decimal point. What this means in practice is that an average calorific value of 39.75 will be billed as if it were 39.7.

I find that a simple 11.22  times cubic metres to kWh conversion works for me.

If you are an IOS user then I would recommend the App - Meter Readings. It is easy to set up and all it requires is 2 meter readings and it will work out the ongoing cost for you: eg, since last bill; between bills etc.

@jvjack this is important. You said:

    Here's how it works:
    GAS UNITS USED X 2.83 X CALORIFIC VALUE (40.1) X VOLUME CORRECTION (1.02264) ÷ 3.6
The "2.83" in that calculation only applies if you've got an imperial meter that measures in cubic feet. You also said:

Gas meter has m with a 3 above it.
This means that you have a metric meter which measures in cubic metres. If UP or EDF calculate your gas use using the formula they gave you, they will think you are using almost three times more gas than you are, and will be charging you for it.
    This is why FreeBear says:

You need to take a photo of your gas meter and make sure it shows the serial number and the units - Send this to EDF and demand that they update the national database. You will find your gas bill drop by about a third once they have got the meter registered correctly.
Utility Point will have been overcharging you for gas, but unfortunately there isn't much you can do about this now that they have ceased trading.
Do you have a UP bill you can check, to see whether they were also multiplying your gas use by 2.83?

Apreciate the advice. There is no login now on UP site.so cant see bills.
Maybe they are updating so will keep checking.
And will make sure EDF know its metric meter.

Cubic metres of gas used multiplied by 11 is a good enough estimate.
This depends on the calorific value of the gas used, it can be anything from around 38.6 to 40.3 maybe a bit more or less in the CV rate. Most analogue meters read in M3 and not ft.3.
ft.3 1 unit of gas using ft.3 would be a calculation of 2.83* 1.02264* 40.3 / 3.6 would be 32.39 kWh but 31.03 kWh if 38.6 was used in M3 the readings would be between 10.96, 38.6cv and  11.44 kWh, 40.3cv, roughly 1.4 kWh off per unit so a monthly bill might vary by 60 kWh or more of gas and at 4p that's only a couple of pounds per month if the units used are just 2 units per day.
Someone please tell me what money is

Late update but my first bill with EDF does show gas reading calculated for metric.
So thats good. The online chat i originally had gave how to calculate for imperial even though i gave them account details.

Anyway both of these , the calculator and the multiply gas units by 11 or11.2 give or take works fine.
    Thanks
