Scam involving ridiculous growth promise and Instagram

I heard an item on You and Yours on Radio 4 today about a scam investment involving Instagram and someone falling for it because they saw a video by someone they knew saying how good it was. It sounds very clever but seems to rely on the victim believing that £500 can be turned into £5,000 very quickly.
Anyway, it's worth a listen and is the first item in the programme

For those who prefer to read forum content rather than listening elsewhere, what are the key features of this scam, e.g. names of organisations involved, what makes it appear credible, etc?2

It's been going on for years, email, facebook, instagram, twitter, the list goes on. When someone's account starts churning this sort of thing out it's almost certain they've been hacked. You're lucky if you haven't encountered this type of scam yet.
