Hello
I have a plain stainless steel backsplash 600mm x 700mm behind my cooker. Unfortunately it looks like the previous owner cleaned it with brillo pads !! and is scratched from top to bottom. What is the best way to sort this. Unfortunately I am not sure how it is fixed to the wall. Is it difficult for someone to remove and replace this or could a new one be put over the top. Would appreciate any ideas or what is possible thanks

you could probably get rid of them with a sanding pad and some fine paper, just make sure when you are doing it you only go horizontally or vertically. I'd try 120grit first1

That will only make it worse (assuming a brushed or polished splash back). If you are going to try polishing the scratches out, start with 1000 grit or even 1200. Then it will need buffing & polishing.... (done quite a bit of metal finishing/polishing in my time). For the hassle, it will probably be quicker & easier to buy a sheet of polished stainless steel cut to size. The old one is most likely fixed to the wall with a grab adhesive. A stripping knife should get it off, but may pull some plaster off in the process. Fill any holes with a bit of filler, and stick the new panel up.

I’m not posting this to be pedantic, it’s more to help with your google searches for a new one, but they tend to be called splash backs.1

in the UK. In the USA, imo, backsplash is more common, not sure about Canada & other countries ...
