Direct Debit Claim Declined

Hello - Hope this is the right place to ask this, as new on here .... I raised a Direct Debit Indemnity claim with my bank yesterday, which I was told was succesful and would be worked on by 12 noon today. With no news by 2pm, I contacted the bank again and they've said my claim has been declined. I've asked them for the reason it was declined, but no response as of yet... Can a bank decline a Direct Debit claim?

Yes, they can. But they should explain why they have done so.WendyS2707 said:Hello - Hope this is the right place to ask this, as new on here .... They've now said the company challenged the request... This is a company that I've been trying to resolve this issue with since last July, they've responded to the bank within 12 hours to challenge. The bank are saying the company (who won't respond to me) are the ones that have to say why it was declined. I thought the Direct Debit Guarantee was in place to ensure you got any incorrect Direct Debits refunded without any issue. Clearly I was wrong.0

The Direct Debit Guarantee is in place to protect you from payment errors. This includes situations such as:
- A direct debit was set up without your authorisation
- The amount taken, the date of the payment or the frequency of the payment are wrong (i.e. not as per the agreement), or have been changed without sufficient notice.
- You cancel a direct debit but money continues to be taken.
It does not cover you for other disputes with the company - e.g. not providing the service you are paying for, of if the goods you've ordered are not as described or are faulty.
So, for example, if you bought a sofa and set up a direct debit to pay for it in installments:
If you were supposed to be paying £100 a month, but the company took £120 - You could use the DD guarantee to reclaim the money as this is a payment error. (you'd obviously still need to make the correct payment)
If the sofa turned up and was the wrong colour, or broke after 1 month - you cannot use the DD guarantee to reclaim your money for this as it is not a payment error.2 -
So what exactly was you claim on the DD Indemnity?WendyS2707 said:Hello - Hope this is the right place to ask this, as new on here .... As above there are many things that are not covered. Only upside is no time limit...Life in the slow lane0
