Virgin Media contract ending but unsure whether to haggle as I am moving house this year

My Virgin Media contract is ending at the end of February and the price hike sets in, and usually I would haggle and sort out a new price. However, we are looking to move house, and the area where we are moving to does not have Virgin Media. Does anyone have any advice as to how to proceed with getting a lower price with VM whilst we are still in our current property?

  • Be aware if you move to a non cabled area you will have to buy out the remaining contract.

As above  move 6 moths after new contract and will owe the remaining months of your contract
Probably best to move to an OpenReach provider , cover much more of the country .
BT Talk Talk Plusnet Sky etc .
OR  manage with a network sim until moving .

We had Sky on a good price and when we moved they could not supply BB so we went to Virgin and Sky didn't charge us anything even though we had several months to go.
Ask Virgin if they will move your contract at no cost.

They cant move anything if the area they are moving to isnt cabled, thats not how it works. Yes, Virgin offer a bog standard phone line broadband product but this is different to the product that comes down the cable.

The Op would be better off tieing herself into NOTHING if she is moving soon.

I think that you'll find that Virgin switched off their "Offnet" services several years ago.  I know, I was an "Offnet" customer for many years.  They only provide over their own network these days.

I see. The spirit of the advice still stands though. Dont tie into anything if you are moving to an uncabled area

    Absolutely!
  • She would be better off checking if she can get the exact same Sky products at the new house and old house. Set up a new account and move it there when ready.
