Cremation Question

I have a query that may sound daft. Do bones get cremated as well or is it just the flesh that's in the urn? Someone said that they chuck the bones away - surely not?
Also, if I want my ashes scattered in the waters off the West Coast of Scottish Highlands, would my kids require some sort of permit or can they just scatter them in the sea? I know the exact point where I want to be but it's close to a quiet beach so they may have to charter a small boat to go further into the sea.

No, the bones are cremated as well. The only thing(s) removed pre cremation would be something like a heart pacemaker.
I'll have to leave your second question to someone else, but expect a lot depends on who owns the beach.1 -
When my grandad dies the plan was the go and scatter his ashes in the garden of remembrance. The local council wanted a three figure sum to allow this to happen.
We went early morning and did it anyway, without paying anyone anything.
Do with this information as you see fit.2 -
Thanks Silvertabby. It's a public beach so hope it would be ok, when the time comes.1

I wouldn't even ask personally I would just do it!"You've been reading SOS when it's just your clock reading 5:05 "3

Yes I think I'll tell them to just do it. It was getting the boat bit that might cause an issue so the beautiful golden beaches it'll be!0

You can charter a boat without giving a reason why you are chartering it. In any case a private enterprise is unlikely to care what you are doing.1

During cremation all the water and soft tissue is vaporised and what you are left with is bone and the odd bit of metal (fillings and surgical implants). The metal is removed and the bone ground down to a gritty powder. It is the bones you get back as “ashes”.Where no one wants the ashes back, they are usually scattered in the cream gardens ( bonemeal is good for the roses)2

No, the bones don't just get 'chucked away'.
As far as I'm aware, you don't need permission to scatter ashes at sea providing you are far enough away from land.0
