Washing machine door exploded

Hi, my washing machine door exploded model innex BWD 71453K. I've contacted indesit but since the warranty ended June 2021 and i didn't pay to extend it. They're isn't really anything they can do. So I've decided to pay £10.29 a month for 12 months. Surely there is something they can do as a glass door shouldn't just exploded it also damaged the kitchen floor. Thankfully no one was hurt.

Is it over 10 years old?  If not did you register for the free parts gtee, if you did you could fit the glass yourself

what are you paying £10 a month for?

Glass does sometimes break, out of warranty the easiest option would probably be to replace it yourself, from looking online it looks like the replacement glass for your model is around £15-20, exactly how much depends on the exact model from the serial number and requires pretty much zero skill to replace.

The mark on the floor looks like a burn, I very much doubt that was caused by the glass, the reality is that it has probably been there for some time and you noticed it when the glass shattered.

What are you paying £123.48 for?

If you've decided to start paying for an extended warranty, best check it covers existing problems, because it probably doesn't.  If it doesn't, you're better off just buying a new door and fitting it.

I suspect something in the washing has cracked the glass.  That looks like an impact break rather than the shattering you sometimes get with glass components.  Could have been an exposed zip, buckle, large button, etc?

You could try the consumer rights route, but after this long (when did you buy it?), you're going to have a hard time proving the glass was inherently flawed such that this was inevitable.

I had a Bosch one broke in similar circumstances - still not sure what caused it but assume it was something rogue inside the washer - quick hunt on eBay got me a replacement for under £20 and 10mins to fit it. It was still performing it's duty when the washing machine finally died

It was only bought in June 2020 brand new. £10 a month is for the care and service for 12months plan for an engineer to come over it check it, fix it. And if its not repairable they'll give me a like for like replacement.

    Hands/dustpan/brush/hoover - didn't seems to have any long-lasting effects

Are you sure they'll do that for a machine you've already reported as broken?  Most insurance products don't cover pre-existing faults, and you've already reported the problem.

    That just can't be right.
I think you should be double checking what you have signed up for.

I had similar offered on an washing machine summer 2020. The manufacturer had a fixed price repair offer (free parts) but paid labour or a monthly plan. The monthly plan included an option whereby if they couldn't repair there would be no charge whereas the fixed price repair had a call out fee if unable to repair.

As I knew the bearings had gone and had a suspicion that they might decide not to repair I went for the monthly option. That said for a broken door i'd repair myself.
