Moving house

Hi,no, when you move in you will be with the previous supplier to the property.Take readings and inform them.1

No - unless your supplier has agreed to offer you the same tariff subject to DNO variations. Even then, you have to register with the deemed supplier before you can switch back to your existing supplier. You will pay the deemed supplier for about 3 weeks of usage.1

Does anyone know a way around this? I have a fixed deal on my current property that lasts for 2 years, that is significantly cheaper than the cap. The new house is on a variable tarrif with another provider. It seems madness that the energy supplier manage to get out of the deal on both ends just because we are moving.0

Your fixed deal on your current property ends when you move out. At least, unlike with broadband, they won't hit you with an early termination charge. Your contract with the existing supplier at your next property starts the moment you use any energy there. Read the meters, call them, open an account and insist on being put on the standard variable tariff. That's the best you can get in the current market environment.

Your contract is for supply to a specific meter point, it is not personal to you...That said, it is worth asking them if they will allow you to switch back to them on the same terms after you have registered with the existing provider at the new house.Several suppliers have offered this option in the past, but understandably they have been rather less interested in doing that recently...Which supplier are you with at the moment?

It will depend on who your energy supplier is. Some companies allow you to take your deal with you when you leave as long as you sign up with them at the new property obviously. I know EDF do. No harm in asking.0
