Insurance still ripping us off ?
Options
Hi all. I am about to renew my motorcycle insurance. The renewal notice came through, and no surprise to find it has increased a little bit but the real bugbear is that they want to charge me an "admin fee" of £40 (£25 last year). So, I shop around and out of interest try the same company as new client and lo and behold, the premium is £4 less and the Admin Fee is a whopping £35 less!
I thought recent new legislation meant they had to offer existing renewals at the same price as new policies? Or does that not apply to motorcycle insurance?
This really annoys me. Thing is, they are still competitive. I just think it is sharp practice and feel I should complain, but to whom? I feel that if I call them I will get fobbed off with it being a "mistake" or some such.
Any thoughts?
Thanks

Is this through a broker or direct with the insurer? An admin fee sounds like a broker cost.0

An admin fee means you are going via a broker or other form of intermediary... are you sure the new quote and the renewal quote are for the same policy with the same underwriter? The renewal may not have been rebrokered whereas the new business one by definition has to and so could be with a different insurer0

I had similar with my car insurance. Got a renewal quote, went on Money Supermarket with same details, same policy from same company is £50 less.0
