carpets look terrible

  • OP the direct answer is to have a carpet expert look at the carpet and give something in writing to say the carpet isn't up to standard as after 6 months you'd have to show the goods didn't conform to the contract and in this instance it would be in terms of durability.

It does look like an area where people would walk through but only you know how often this happens and whether it's lasted a reasonable amount of time.

How the carpet was advertised would also come in to play, usually advice is given as to the place the carpet is suitable for, i.e a carpet might be advised for a bedroom but different carpet might be advised for a heavy use area such as a hallway.

Just to add looking at 2 random carpets on their site they have a wear guarantee, did your carpet come with this?
Are you suggesting that the carpet has not been supplied to the customer in (ahem) a durable medium:)
Indeed it has become a bit of a favourite word around here in my posts :)

OP the 2nd photo does highlight it to be wear as carpet hidden under furniture will always look much fresher than the parts that are walked over.

I would check the terms of the no wear guarantee, 10 years seems generous and it wouldn't surprise me if there's a lot of exclusions but if you meet the terms of the guarantee then presumably they offer to do something under the guarantee?

Quite, and I'd also suggest that what OP has is not "wear", but simply a difference in appearance based on how/where the different parts of the carpet are exposed and used.

"No wear" would be a dangerous promise to make, because it's impossible for a carpet not to suffer wear unless it's literally not walked on at all.

Is it a polypropylene  carpet?  There seem to be regular complaints about that type of carpet flattening noticeably where it is  walked on and  the pile not bouncing back.

And the shiny ones show up every difference in the lay of the fibres.

i noticed my carpets look awful tapi sent a man from a carpet inspection firm who said it was caused by walking on and flattening so its my fault
I have misunderstood the purpose of carpets, I always thought they were for walking on, I even thought that walking on them was their primary usage.  I can't believe a carpet manufacture can get away with that excuse.

Given that that the problem appears to be you are walking on them there is a solution.  You need to sit on your bum and scoot across it like a dog scratching its butt - they can't complain about you walking on it then.

I don't care about your first world problems; I have enough of my own!
  • i have had someone come out and look at my carpets and he said it's heavy pile reversal and was a fault in the carpet he showed me the fontand back of the pile and pointed out on places where no one had walked on that would go like it { trod down } if walked on he said to get in touch with associated weavers , i am just waiting till he gets back to me as he is sorting out a letter to the company who supplied who he says have a responsibility as they supplied the carpet anyway thanks to everyone who replied and i hope to post in future with the outcome

Good for you!  Can't believe some of the replies on here saying it's what a carpet should look like that's only a year old!  i agree with the poster above you - to say the problem lies with you walking on the carpet is laughable.  Good luck with pursuing them for a refund.
  • i have also had someone contact me who has a carpet from Tapi that in 6 months went the same he got the same answer from them as i did he paid £60 a metre and they said that it was to be expected he bought it for the pattern which has flattened and looks awful the more people i can get information off the better ...anyway i'm not to sure how to thank people who have added comments so i say it here thankyou
