EON

Morning all

Bit of a strange one here, i switched to EON back in February 2021 from Scottish power and all went well for a few months but then back in August i went to get a meter reading from the gas meter but the LCD display (which shows the reading) was blank and no matter what i did i couldn't get a meter reading from it.... I contacted EON to say it was faulty and they arranged for an engineer to come out to look at it.  An engineer finally came in October and pressed a few buttons and said yes it is broken isn't it (i took a day off work for this diagnosis, my last day holiday for the year too) so i called EON to complain and explained that i have no more holidays left so i can't book anymore time off until January due to having no holidays left.

Finally yesterday an engineer came and replaced the gas meter and it's now all good but...... the engineer advised me that the meter is completely dead and they are unable to pull meter readings from it.

My question is that they have been estimating the gas bill for the last 6 months and are certainly estimating a figure way more than i could have ever used as i'm at work through the day and at my partners all weekend, so i don't believe for a split second that I've used even a fraction of what they are saying.

Where do i stand with this?

any help would be greatly appreciated.

Kind regards

I would suggest you compare with your consumption over the same period the previous year if you have that data?
It will be a matter for negotiation and while they took longer to fix it than was reasonable, the delay after October was from your side so there is some balance there, but you may still get a gesture form them so I'd start by asking them for their proposal then you can counter if it feels unreasonable..

  • yes i'm sure i can still obtain that from Scottish power.

Thank you for your help MWT
