This is what happened to me, we got switched over to them from Peoples Energy who went bust in September, transferred over to BG fully by end of October, i  assumed we  would carry on monthly direct debit. (My mistake) anyway last Wednesday I receive a text and a letter threatening me with debt collection agency fee of £7, and they had also added a £13 late fee.
 
The  letter said this was the fourth time they had tried to contact me by letter, I definitely hadn’t received any, I too was extremely upset at my first dealings with BG, phoned them waited an hour in a queue and they’ve taken off the £13 late fee,

 I paid the bill immediately but now owe another one by next Thursday 🙈 the call centre was terrible, the woman wasn’t that helpful , kept misunderstanding me , and I still don’t know how to change over the monthly direct debit despite having the app!  Hope you get yours sorted! I would change providers if they all weren’t so similarly expensive at the moment.

BG have just added an energy usage section on my account page which does what I want. It shows I'm just above the DD amount so considering its pretty cold at the present is not too bad.
