  • Well a few things. Have you got gas as well?

If its electric only, bear in mind its winter.
  • I guess it's a property with no gas?

Heating by electricity is a lot more expensive than gas.

As your tariff has a night and day tariff, are you doing what you can to ensure as much as possible is used during the night tariff? For example, washing machine / dish washer should be running overnight.

How is the heating running? I guess storage heaters?

Make sure the immersion heater is only using the overnight supply and that any boost switch for a second immersion heater is left switched off.  If using storage heaters make sure any inbuilt convector is not topping up during the day.  Don't use an instantaneous electric shower, use the hot water from the tank.

No it’s just electric but can’t understand why it’s so much. I have an immersion that I’ve wired to a times so is only heating the water for 1 hour so I can have a shower when back from work. The only thing I’m not sure about is the heating I have is ceiling heating which is new to me.

Does the infra-red heating have sensors so it only comes on when the room is occupied?

That will be cause of your bills   It will be using on peak electric rather than the cheaper night rate. There should be a thermostat

Have you got the meter reads from October and today.?

PS You are looking at the In House Display toy - the Smart Meter will be in a box outside your flat,

Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill

Thank you guys for your replies. I don’t think it’s the infra red panels. It’s a 90s property. It has downstairs and upstairs and a thermostat in the bedroom.

Heating appliances are what consumes large amounts of electricity, heat pumps excepted.

OK, if it isn't infra red how does your ceiling heating operate
I can't imagine warm ceilings are a very effective way of heating your flat (although they might keep the one above nice and toasty)?
