Hose Pipe

Morning All

My trusty old hosepipe has finally got to the point where "repairing" it again is getting silly, the reel is currently held together with more duct tape than original plastic and the pipe itself has 4 parts where I've cut it and put a connection point on to repair a major leak, add in the several other pinhole leaks and the time for it to retire is here.

That being said, I need a new pipe and reel, I'm fortunate enough to have a large detached property so ideally need at least 30m, probably with the intention of clipping on an extension when I need to get to the far reaches. Can anyone recommend a solid reel and pipe? I'd like wall mounted if possible, but only if its "decent" - No point if i spend 10 minutes every use arguing with kinks and dodgy winding mechanisms.

Any recommendations appreciated.

I've had one of these for donkey's years, never had a problem with it: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Hozelock-Meters-Compact-Mounted-Guide/dp/B000TAW6JE/ref=sr_1_4
You can get them in loads of places, in different capacities (just make sure the one you buy will hold 30m of hose if that's what you're intending to put on it).  Mine's got to be well over 25 years old now and still going strong.

The Hozelock retractable units always get good reviews. I'm planning on getting one myself when my current hosepipe finally gets beyond repair.

Just make sure you buy a good quality rubber hose ,the cheap ones always kink up and stop the water flow.
  • Thank you all - Hozelock stuff seemed to come up "high" on my searches - So it's nice to see "real life" examples of longevity.

@Ganga - Do you have any recommendations to define "good quality"? My last pipe was a B&Q jobbie and I've probably had 8 years out of with with various repairs, I'd really like something that's going to last 10-15 years considering we're talking near 3 figures.

We have this hose https://www.hozelock.com/product/super-tricoflex-ultimate/ it does not kink no matter how hard you try and is a few years old now and still working as it should.

I think we probably got it at Toolstation or Screwfix on an offer.

We bought some "heavy duty" hose from ebay when we had our daughter's wedding (tent in the field next to the house, needed water for bar and kitchen)

We've had the same for over 20 years now (that makes me feel old!).  One tip for longevity is to always wind it in while it's connected and under pressure, as it doesn't tend to kink the.  It's when you get the corner of a kink dragging along the ground that you wear holes in the pipe.

I bought a Gardenline one from Aldi ,has 20 metres of rubber hose ,it was not expensive ,it can be removed from the wall by pulling a plastic pin out so can be stored in the garden shed over winter ,came complete with hose ,connector for garden tap ,spray ,jet nozzle but i did buy a Hozelock type fancy garden spray attachment off Amazon ,have had it for several years and trouble free.
