But the point is that the switch cannot even begin until the day the customer choses. - so the OP's concern that a switch could complete before the new account is available is misplaced. The OP would be choosing the date and should choose one suitable for their needs. If the bank changes that date then it can only be to a later date, which would not lead to the problem the OP imagines.
(having said that one of my switches a year or so ago, was started and completely prematurely, But the bank admitted error on that)0
