Facebook Marketplace - Service to deliver items with a selling fee

I am wondering if anyone has any honest feedback for selling items on Facebook, where you can deliver/send items instead of local pick up.

I am used to selling odd personal bits locally, when I listed a couple of items this week it suggested I offer delivery.  Users have contacted me for delivery in the past and I have said no as I have had a bad experience on PayPal where I sent an item, then they withdrew the amount as the bank details used were scammed.  So I lost out on £230.  I do not want any experience of this happening again.  Even the proof of purchase was invalid.

Looking for honest reviews on reliability, safety of products and funds and ease of use.

Thanks!!

Probably more than half my marketplace items are posted and 90% are paid by PayPal. However I am familiar with PayPal and am happy that I can protect myself. Why did you lose your money in your PayPal sale, did you send to the address given on the PayPal and if a case for fraudulent of a card was opened did you defend it with proof of posting?

I have sold, and bought items which were pick up only on Marketplace and Ebay. when selling I now state that delivery can be arranged at buyers expense.
It is important to state that delivery must be arranged by the seller and adequate insurance factored into the price.
I have used Anyvan, Hermes and Parcelforce and only lost 1 package over the years.

I actually state in my listings what postage will be, so for instance I might say item is £10 and 2nd class postage is £3 so prices are all up front. Although that doesn’t stop people asking ‘will you post this?’ or ‘how much for postage?’ 😀

@soolin The address was a 'work' address sent separately on a message.  The messages were polite and very trusting, an obvious scam in hindsight.  The card payment via PayPal was used fraudulently and the owner did a chargeback.  I had proof but it meant nothing.

I am wondering how FB take the fees as it looks like they have their own system for coordinating payment/offering delivery?  Can I just organise on my own via the messenger?

At the moment in the UK Facebook is still a free service arranged privately between buyers and sellers, no payment is handled at all by Facebook. As a seller you are free to make what arrangements you want, I offer PayPal and postage, usually Royal Mail or Hermes.

MSE did release a statement that they had been informed that facebook UK would follow the US model from February and launch a paid for service, but no one else apart from MSE has mentioned such a firm timing.
