Paper Receipts

  • As above no rights to a receipt but I can understand the desire for a one, once upon leaving the store a Co op employee stopped me and said I hadn't paid for a box of chocolates at the shelf checkout, luckily I'd pressed the screen for a receipt and could show that I did.

My wife purchased an item of clothing from Tesco and when we got home it still had the security tag on, wouldn't fancy going back with that and screenshot of £100 odd spent there as it doesn't prove you purchased that item and could have instead stolen it.

I know we all give our email for online shopping but physical stores are a different experience and those who don't want to give a paper receipt wouldn't get my custom again.
Same could be said with a physical reciept.

Unless they do not offer paper receipts at all, you are under no obligation to give them an email. I tend not to, as I do not want to be added to mailing lists. The shop assistant has probably been told that they need to make sure they get as many people's emails as possible for marketing and will have to explain if they have low numbers.

If we get to a point where it is required, I will set up a separate email address for them and keep it for that only.

    Email receipts for the win.
No fear of losing & search function means you can find them very easy.

Companies in the UK shouldn't be adding your email address to a marketing list without your explicit consent.
My payment processor allows me to input someone's email address or phone number for a receipt, but it won't let me access it again as the details are starred out.

The store receipt would be itemised, sure you could buy one and steal one but having the receipt gives you a certain amount credibility and less chance of standing there wondering if they are wondering if you've been shoplifting.
