Hello

I can't get life insurance as working on lowering my blood pressure.

My husband was declined by royal London and coop as his father has MS... my husband apart from currently being overweight is fine.

What should we look at doing if he can't find cover?  He is the breadwinner.

How have you attempted to get cover? Direct with the insurer/tied agents or via a whole of market broker/IFA? Advisory brokers will have much greater chance of getting a positive outcome than any other... though dont have the experience of others that post here to say how much of an issue a close family history of MS will be or not.

Another option is to speak to the MS Society as I believe they have a relationship with a broker and you'd therefore hope they are experienced with knowing who'll consider the condition and not etc.
  • Thanks its just that his father has MS not him.

We just used the online with both companies.

Hypertension does not normally prevent life assurance being obtained.  It usually results in an increase but not a rejection.  Only in the initial diagnosis and still undergoing tests phase would cover be deferred.  Or if there are other conditions that when combined with this make you high risk.

Not the best way to buy.   You need an IFA or whole of market protection adviser.   Who ideally, would speak to underwriters first, before submitting the application, to get an indication of how they would treat the case.
I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.
  • That's great thank you so much.

Yeah they just said because I'm still trying to control it (it's slightly raised) they can't help me ... yet lol

What was your last reading?  Just because your gp is still trying to reduce it somewhat doesn't mean it's not within the parameters of what an insurace company would allow, especially if they increased the premium to cover any additional risk.

In respect of your husband, his dad's MS would not be causing him to be declined so if there is nothing else present health wise it must be down to his BMI.  What is his height and weight?  Royal London aren't particularly stringent when it comes to BMI but there are companies which are more lenient.
