Facebook - Comments removed

Options
Hi All

Is anyone else having issues with your comments being removed as Facebook are classing them as 'going against their community standards'?!

I report this as false but never receive a response.

It's only just competition posts and nothing I say is rude/offensive. I'm not quite sure why it keeps happening.

Happened to me last December, the posts removed were all the same, no comments just an @ to tag someone (always my husband) to enter a competition.

Nothing recently.....(touch wood) it started Oct & got worse over Advent period.

  • This has just happened to me and I rarely enter FB comps. This was a response to 'what's your favourite product' question with no tag or anything like that (and definitely not something I'd typed anywhere else).

This has happened to me before too, all I did was comment the word 'Green'. Maybe it's similar to insta where there's an algorithm to try and spot spam comments

Happened to me before Xmas then it was ok for a while but has started again the last couple of days. At the moment there seems no appeal procedure.
Very annoying as there seems no obvious reason  :s

Meta who own Facebook and Instagram must have changed their automated spam selectors over the last few months.
Posts from last year than I posted on my own wall, shared only to my friends, about what I was doing that day got removed too. I just marked their response as false and it was later added back (I wasn't notified though!) I went in search of it.

I think also once you have a spam or mark against your name, your account must be under more of a surveillance and it happens more to you, some people I've heard have had their Instagram accounts removed completely, without warning. Others having to sent their details and proof of identity to them.

I think this was after all the 'hoo-ha' about children's safety online which obviously I want them to be safer, BUT they are removing comments for spam, which aren't really spam and then if anyone reports anything for abusive comments or fake accounts trying to scam people, they apparently 'don't go against Facebook's guidelines'
They need more real people to check these things and not just automated bots.

I always try and make sure I write a whole comment if I can, instead of one word answers. When tagging people, I try and put a different emoji or word in the comment too, so it isn't just 8 tags on Instagram in a short amount of time.

I know loads of people have been having loads of issues with their comments being removed, luckily I only had one or two so far 🤞 they really do need to sort it out though!
Thank you to everyone who posts competitions and good luck to everyone who enters.
  • I had two removed in one day. They were both just answers to a comp questions, no tags and both times I only commented once. Yet they seem to do nothing about all the fake accounts trying to obtain bank details.

There seems to be no logic to their algorithms to identify spam. For example, one Facebook competition said reply WEEKEND so everyone including me replies WEEKEND but that isn't seen as spam. I replied to a post asking what my favourite sweet treat was and "Ice Cream" fell foul of the spam algorithm. I agree that they should focus more on the endless fake accounts.
  • I wonder whether it is another commenter trying to better their chances of winning by reporting others comments?
  • Thanks all for the replies.

It's frustrating but I'll try adding a few more words to my comments - see if that makes a difference!

I did wonder if someone was reporting my comments, but that seems unfair that they can report comments but my feedback to the removal is ignored.

Have a good day all! :)
