Secondly, the standing charge increase on electricity only accounts for about 17% of the increase in electricity cost for a typical customer, the other 87% is in the kWh cost.

Yes it is a large increase in the daily standing charge, but you only pay that part 365 times a year, a typical customer is going to pay the increased kWh charge 2900 times...

No one said saving the planet would be easy and cheap. 

The "Russian" issue has exacerbated this but here we are.

No one can get near a decent solar installation firm for 6 months

I am personally investing in cheap 2kg bags of frozen sprouts and harvesting methane. Mrs Mstty is not happy

Hang on - are you saying that British Gas are telling you about an intention to more than double the standing charge from OCTOBER? If so you may want to contact them and let them know an error has been made as there is no such huge increase coming up - the SC will only increase a tiny amount in October (pennies) from the previous amount set by the April cap.

Hang on - are you saying that British Gas are telling you about an intention to more than double the standing charge from OCTOBER? ... unless they were on a fix that just ended perhaps... ?

With regard to solar panels, if not going via home owners installation strategy. If government could install solar panels strategically around  (e.g. edges of roads and public buildings etc...) couldn't this be another source of energy?

What ideas does the rest of the community have for the UK to generate its own energy?
