Boiler pressure

Options
Hi,

I've noticed that the pressure guage on my boiler varies massively. It ranges from zero (when off and cold) to well in to the red zone when functioning.

I tried bleeding the radiators and there was no issue with trapped air (water trickled out).

Is this likely to be an issue which I should get someone out to check?

Many thanks

Could be an expansion vessel problem or even just a faulty pressure gauge. Yes, get someone out to look at it.

It could be the expansion vessel that's failing which is causing the pressure release valve to open. Top the pressure back up to 1 using the filling loop.  When you turn the heating on, does the pressure go up to around 3 before dropping back down?

Thanks. I previously tried to top it up. Its currently on and sat at 2.5. It was higher the other day (around 3.5)

If it is at zero, what happens when you ask the boiler to fire up for central heating?  If it works, something is wrong with the pressure switch as it should not fire up.

Yes it does work. I’ve got BG coming out tomorrow now. Thanks
