Flight date change fees on TUI - Extortionate!

Recently book flight only to Greece. Return flights cost approx £350. A week later realised I needed to change the flight to a few days later.
TUI wanted £278 to change the dates slightly. 2 minutes to type in 2 dates. Is this extortion? How can it cost so much.
Any comments please?
Thanks - Happy Monday to you all.

Will simply be a case the flights 2 days later cost more. Nothing more to it.0

There will probably be a standard admin fee assuming this isn't a covid related change. If the original travel date was mid-week the flight may well have been cheaper than the new date - that difference will have to be paid. New date may fall within school holidays, Bank Holidays etc, etc. There are many factors which affect the price, so in answer to the question - the changes isn't necessarily extortionate, and isn't automatically extortionate because it is a lot of money.0

Did you book a flexible ticket? Assuming you didnt then anything less than the full cost of a new flight isnt a bad outcome.1 -
The new flights were available at exactly the same price and you would think that you could change the flight by a few days during a cooling off period like most contracts, especially when you pay up front months in advance. Easyjet and Jet2 I think you can change online very easily.0

Easyjet have a 24hr cooling off period, due to covid they arent currently charging for online changes other than airfair differences but ordinarily they do and similarly with Jet2 on an admin fee for changes plus any "discounts" applied to your original flights wont be applied to the rescheduled ones and so expect admin fee + ticket price increase even if the website shows a new customer can get the flight at the same price you paid.
This however is moot as you didnt decide to book with them.0 -
I could not book another flight to the same destination with Easyjet as they don't fly to this airport unfortunately. But I won't be choosing TUI in the future. Many thanks for all your comments but I think it would be good business sense for TUI to be a little more flexible.
It also took us about 1 hour to get through to them on the phone as it wasn't an option to do the change on the website even though there is a video showing you how to do it. The live website does not show the same options on the Manage my Booking menu.
Very frustrating. Such a waste of 2 afternoons.
