Scottish Power Heat pump tariff?
Options
Hello, I am trying to resolve an issue on our Ecodan Heat Pump and Mitsubishi have asked me to check whether there is a special tariff for people who have an air source heat pump (we also have solar panels).
I have looked around the web and tried to call SP but their wait times are 1.5 hours. I dont think they do and also I am already on the 1 Year June 2022 price fix for our electricity so I suspect even if they did have a tariff it wouldnt be as cheap as the one I currently have.
Does anyone have an expert knowledge please.

There are some knowledgeable heat pump users on the forum but I don't recall them ever mentioning a special heat pump tariff, not from any supplier.

The only one I've ever seen was the 'Green Heat' tariff from Good Energy. Not sure if that is still available...0

I think if there was such a tariff in England I would surely know about it. I have never heard of such a tariff anywhere but Scotland does have some unique tariffs so if you are with Scottish Power in Scotland I could not guarantee that there is not some obscure tariff of this sort.
I think in Sweden they might offer what you are seeking. ASHPs are very popular there.Reed0 -
I'm guessing that for most people with a heat pump, the best tariff is the cheapest single rate tariff.
Unless you can shift a good proportion of your leccy use to overnight there's probably no benefit in an off peak tariff because the heatpump uses energy when its heating, which for most people is during the day or evening and not overnight.
Most off peak tariffs have a higher cost during peak times compared to single rate tariffs to compensate for the cheaper off-peak cost.
Having solar panels doesn't really make a great deal of difference to the running costs of a heatpump as they use most of their energy in the winter when its everso cold the sun doesn;'t shine very much, the days are short and they hardly produce any leccy. and its everso cold, compared with the summer when its warm and sunny and the solar panels are generating lots but the heatpump isn't doing very much at all.
I live in the East of England and my heatpump gets through around 2kwh a day in the summer months and between 40- 60kwh/day in the winter.
Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0
