JD Williams / Allianz PPI Success

Re:
Allianz taking responsibility for JD Williams / Ambrose Wilson PPI mis-selling....

I reclaimed several years ago but JD Williams rejected the claim - my reasons were I did not request the cover, the cover was unsuitable for my circumstances (I had 6 months sick pay/etc ) and in fact I could prove I had asked for the cover to be cancelled but this request was ignored (I obviously wasn't persistant enough though).

Eventually I received a small Plevin refund of £320 and thought no more about it.

In December I received a letter from Allianz stating they were looking into my mis-selling claim, and would respond by the end of December. In December I received another letter apologising for the delay and they would be in touch by 4th January 2022.

I received yet another letter on 4th Jan offering me the opportunity to go to FOS as they were unable to offer a decision by their deadline, but would be in touch by the end of January.

On Saturday 15th Jan I received the decision and a cheque.....for £7232! Absolutely shocked and very happy!

This goes back to the 1990s hence the huge amount of compound interest. The actual PPI I paid was less than a few hundred.

Hopefully a few others that have been turned down will hear something soon!

  • FYI PPI refunds are simple interest not compound, 8% a year for some years and 15% before a certain point

Keep an eye on the interest element as it's likely you will owe tax on it

Did you make the original complaint yourself or did you use a claims management company? If it was the latter, you may receive an invoice shortly if the firm are still trading

    their - 'owned by them'
    they're - 'they are'
it's bought not brought (i just bought my chicken a suit from that new shop for £6.34)

According to the paperwork, Tax has been deducted in the calculation already :)

The tax on the interest is deduced correct, but you are only entitled to a fixed amount of interest per calendar year, you may find that you owe more e.g. if you are a higher rate tax payer or if you try and claim back some of the tax on the interest
