Why not just have it looking like a wooden fire surround?

I am not recommending it as I’ve never used it but it sounds l8ke it might be what you are after.1 -
Pramsay, because it turns out that my decor is Modern Cottage (who knew that using what you'd got during lockdown would get a name ;-)I am stuck in the South West with rising infections and poor deliveries.Martin that looks like an interesting idea. The nearest I got was Masonry paint but I'm thinking dust would collect in the bits. I'll look into this.

How about painting with assorted colours for a fake marble look ?Natural stone has a variety of hues even in a single slab. The stuff is never a uniform colour, so a bit of creativity is needed if you want to avoid it looking like a bit of painted MDF.
Her courage will change the world.
Treasure the moments that you have. Savour them for as long as you can for they will never come back again.1 -
Good thought about not too uniform. I guess that's why I felt something would be wrong with masonry paint.
Wonder what the stone paint reviews like.
I am creative, classy ideas, small budget and it used to be my skill set.
An occasional mishap which can be hillarious if it's not in the middle of your living room.
I wouldn't be trying this if I hadn't long been trying other avenues.I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

I did quite a lot of research into Stonelux paint when I was considering changing the dirty yellow colour of the ugly stone fireplace in our new (to us) home last year.
It looks to be a good product, but needs several coats. I think this is the site I found which had lots of helpful tips & 'before & after' photos.

I the end we replaced both the gas fire & fireplace for something much more contemporary so we can have a cosy focal point without heat which as mostly going up the chimney. Not very MSE, but we're in our 70s, can't travel and can't take it with us
Good luck1 -
Lol, i know what you mean but I have to be careful. Will travel but need a bathroom, maybe a new glass porch if I can't fix the door and carpets so this buys me time.
Thanks for the information. Really useful.
I'll send you a postcard if I'm not too decrepit and can travel again

Good luck with the work. We've spent a fortune since moving here last Feb, but we sold for more than we paid for this, so what the hell.1
