Is anyone familiar with Doncaster racecourse.

Im considering getting tickets for the races at Doncaster for my husbands birthday. He has always said he would like to go but he is disabled and needs wheelchair access so everything has to be carefully worked out before I book anything.
At the moment Travelodge have some cheap deals on rooms at Doncaster on the right dates so I would like to take advantage.

When I look at the website to book tickets for the races there are different price for the 'County' and 'Premier' enclosures but nowhere on the site does it tells you what is different about the enclosures.

I have emailed them to ask the question but by the time they get back to me the hotel may be booked up so I wondered if anyone on here is familiar with the racetrack and could tell me the difference in the enclosures in respect of ease of access/facilities so I know what ticket to get.

Thanks

Its all on the flat, he will be fine with either. Grandstand boxes and hospitality served with lifts, its a modern building.
  • Premier tickets are usually the 'premium' enclosure tickets at any racecourse.

I haven't been to Doncaster specifically before but suspect the main noticable difference is that you will have access to more areas which means more bars, betting areas, food outlets and viewing areas.

A premier ticket will give you access to both the county and premier areas and a county ticket will restrict you to just the county areas. They will both have similar facilities and may even use the same entrances it's just with a Premier ticket you can use both and therefore have access to a larger area.

Personally if it's a one off for a birthday I would pay the extra and get premier tickets so you can access more of the racecourse.

  • Thank you so much both of you, thats brilliant.
  • Grateful for the help so far but back with another question please.

I had posted on another site besides this and the reply on there was that the only difference was the bars and the fact that you could sit in the stand in the Premier.

Now hubby cant drink due to his meds so the bar does not matter and as he will be in a wheelchair wont be able to sit in the stands. What would be most important to him (I think) would be to be able to look at the horses in the parade ring before the races start.
Does anyone know if that is available on the County enclosure ticket?

Im not trying to be a cheapskate but if the parade ring is available to County ticket holders then I may as well go for that and giive him extra in the 'betting money envelope'.

The parade ring is accessible to everyone. There is even a wooden "balcony" where he can get flat access to it.

My only criticism of Doncaster is that the view is awful, especially down the back (at least at places like Haydock you can see it) but all racecourses have big screens anyway. Thats a critique even if you are able bodied though, so not really relevant to your situation!
  • Thank you for the link. The website doesn't really show you the zones for each ticket. I have emailed them on the 'Contact |Us' but got no reply so one final question if I may.

Looking on the virtual tour it shows disabled viewing on the Lazarus stand. Can that be accessed on a County ticket or is it Premier?
  • The Lazarus stand is up on high, its for hospitality boxes. So not an option here.

Trust me, he will be fine with the bog standard ticket, but I dont rate Doncaster as a viewing experience anyway. Will be better if its a flat meeting rather than a jumps (if its between mid March and early November its a flat meeting).
  • Thank you emmajones. The whole thing seems to be so confusing.
When I pull up the map on the website it shows the Lazarus as having wheelchair viewing and it says the orange parts are public.
Think Im going off the idea of Doncaster if as you say the viewing is not good anyway. It is a jumps meeting I was looking at booking as I think he would prefer that and there are 2 suitable dates in March which is when I want to go.
Perhaps I will look at some other racecourses. Just thought Doncaster would have been convenient as we are near Manchester and I wanted somewhere no more than 100 miles away. But its not worth going if the viewing is bad as it will be even worse if he is sat in a chair.
    thank you for your help.

Book him in to Haydock. Nearer, usually a better standard of racing, pan flat so no issues with views. Lovely racecourse.
I will also recommend Uttoxeter. Basic ticket there would be absolutely fine for a man in a wheelchair.
