Altering direction of cupboard and internal walls

I am looking at knocking through my bedroom wall into the cupboard of the next room to make a current cupboard bigger. I have had several differing opinions (builders) on whether the wall I want to knock through is a load bearing wall. Some say yes, others no.
The wall itself sits on top of the one that divides the living and dining room. It sounds hollow when tapped (but one builder said it could still be supporting). The floor boards run parallel to the wall. In the loft the middle roof beams seem to be resting on it. Should I get a structural engineer to check? If so what is the SE likely to cost and if it is a load bearing wall and I go ahead will it be major money to do?

Any language construct that forces such insanity in this case should be abandoned without regrets. –

I think Ryan7 meant is getting a bigger cupboard worth all of this time, effort and money......0
