British Gas Boiler

Can anyone give me some advice please. Getting desperate now.
Had a Glow Worm boiler fitted in June 2016 by BG. (now out of 5yr warranty). First breakdown was October 2016 F28 / Last callout 12.1.2022 replaced Fan /Burner / Valve
Call outs/breakdowns/replacement parts have been appaling. 20 callouts, 14 replacement parts
Replacement parts have been replaced again, again, - conrol board, pumps, sensors, diverters, F28,F29,F25
Suggested a replacement boiler, but just got replacement parts, again.
Boiler service & cover was £78. within warranty, now £252.00 as ' due to amount of breakdown/ callouts.' ( taken out as no faith in boiler)
Have written to BG but as yet no reply.
Can I go to Ombusman / Trading standards?
Thank you in advance for any replies.

Trouble is companies like that do not empluy enginners who can fix things.Jus ta look up book that says if it's doing this repalce this. No looking or testing that it is the right thing to do. And that is why you end up with multiple replaced parts when the boiler could be fixed in one go by someone competent.Write this off. Go for a boiler with a 10 year warrenty (5 years shows you it's a cheap one). And get a decent local tindependant tradesman to do the job.Or stick it out with BG but only they will decide when to change it for a new one (which is unlikely to help if they install naff ones again).1

£252 a year for cover and an annual service isn't too bad. You can usually get cover for as little as £5 a month and then find a decent gas tech to do an annual service (£50-100 depending on where you live, etc.)
As far as what you can do about the boiler, you need to set out in a letter to BG what solution you want. With hindsight, you should have rejected the boiler a long time ago, when it first had repetitive faults. See what they say, then come back for advice.1 -
In my personal experience, and in my area British Gas are in a mess. It would appear that BG changed the terms and conditions for their engineers and said take it or leave it, and they appear to have left in large numbers. After having 4 cancellations on the trott, and visits arranged only by my wife screaming down the phone, after 12 weeks of pure hell, we went to a small independent through the Bosch website and replaced what we regarded as a dangerous boiler that had been rebuilt by British Gas to no avail. The fault returned within two days. (Loud bang on ignition, we thought the boiler would explode one day. The boiler had been condemned once by BG) The Bosch engineers was superb and replaced the unit flawlessly within three days of contact. We have set our service contract with BG to lapse (manual renew) and will not renew. Be very careful in cancelling home care contracts with BG. Cancel early and they will charge you for all repairs carried out through the life of the CURRENT contract. We expect to stay with our independent one man band Bosch Installer for the life of the new boiler, thank God. Hallelujah!1

Thank you everybody,I just didn't know which way to turn really.I asked for a replacement boiler but BG said we'll replace the control board and that should be fine. Stupid me was none the wiser. We'll go through omibusman and see what happens, just dont want to spend another £5,200.65 on boiler and installation.Jan0

Although we included electrics, plumbing, boiler and appliances on our contract, and we’re paying £95 per month for our contract, the lack of prompt action was the final straw. We voluntarily turned our boiler off for four days before the Bosch install and have given up with BG. The premiums will go into savings. There are plenty of really excellent alternatives out there.0

When we had our boiler installed around 5 years ago, BG wanted around £4,500. Ended up using a local installer who did it for £2,600.0

We started off with BG cover nearly 30 years ago, but switched to cheaper cover once our boiler (new build house) was out of warranty. We had to call them out to fix the boiler on a Friday, which they did. Not. The next morning we could smell gas so we called them to be told that they would try to pop in on Monday, as they didn't 'do' weekends - but if we had a leak we should call BG.
Switched back to BG and have been with them ever since. Perhaps we've been lucky, but the chaps who have carried out our annual service - and any breakdown call-outs - have all been excellent.0 -
Opp, I wonder if you qualify for a new boiler under ECO?
