Good morning everyone!
I've been to the supermarket to get some bits and bobs - just enough to last until Wednesday when I go again - this is working for me at the moment so will see how I go. I also posted 2 cards whilst I was there and got petrol so very productive!
I've made some leek and potato soup in the soup maker so will have that with a roll for my lunch today. This evening is breaded chicken with fried new potatoes and coleslaw etc.
I need to clean the kitchen and downstairs cloakroom and do a bit of ironing so will get on with that once I've finished my porridge.
I'm meeting a friend for coffee at 2pm so that will be a nice catch up for an hour or two.
No other plans but I'm trying to get things done on a Saturday to free myself up for Sundays to either get some ad-hoc jobs done or to sit and read my book/watch tv (you can guess which it is likely to be!).
ScarletRibbons - I'm so sorry you have tested positive - fingers crossed you get away lightly.
Have a great day all.

Morning All
Scarlet and Red Ruby hope you recover soon from covid
Nels hope you are not overdoing things and your foot is improving
Gers well done on the baking another one here who loves coffee and walnut
I used to love baking but seem to lost my enthusiasm recently
Jackie so lovely to see you back hopefully when things improve and I am back home we will finally have that coffee and cake
Still in EA been slightly difficult at the beginning of the week with Ddad but I have to keep reminding myself it is the tumour and not him
DH is coming back again today he had swapped shifts as we would have been away for the weekend but that has now changed with what has happened with Ddad
I took a day off on Wednesday and we had a drive to the broads which was lovely
It has felt quite strange as I haven't lived alone for quite a few years and I only really leave the flat to see Ddad or go food shopping when not many
Folks about
Right time to get ready for my morning visit have a good Saturday
Hugs to all

Morning all, after a couple of days of sun we're back to the grey skies.
All building work was done yesterday but the builders now have to come back to give the drive a final skim or something and finish off the steps. Mr Fix It has asked him to do some more work but I'm not fussed when, I would like not to have mud and/or cement traisped into the house for a while despite people wiping their feet . I had to phone my dentist again yesterday as I'm having more problems so I have an appointment on Monday now. These appointments seem never ending and himself has an oncology review next week too. Sadly old age doesn't come on it's own as the saying goes 😞. I'm biding my time this morning waiting to go for my scan, we have to leave an hour before time as it's at a different hospital. Seems all things are done except routine stuff at our new local one, about 2 miles away !
Tea last night was liver bacon and onion gravy (Nels we seem to have swapped menus !) but I think we'll have a Chinese takeaway tonight, well I did weigh myself last night and I've lost a few lbs since xmas, hurrah !!
Scarlett hope your covid stays mild, hugs to you both-but from a distance 😁
RedRuby hugs to you and I hope your "clients" are ok too.
Gers is the drop off of cake for me ? Please, pretty please 🙏😂
Hope everyone has a good Saturday.
Take care all

Very frosty here so not venturing out. Eldest son is visiting overnight so may treat us to a takeaway. GERS never mind thing of beauty, looks gorgeous!9

Poppy - and others, many thanks for the kind comments! It's been so long since I last did any baking that I wasn't confident in my skills. Virtual posting of pieces of it are being done.
Scarlet and other covid sufferers, so sorry that you're ill. Hopefully your vaccinations will mean that you only have mild symptoms, please just take things easy.Nelski - good to hear that your ankle is almost better, another one to take things easy.TA - your little bus makes me smile every time you mention it. There used to be one which trundled past my house, 11.00a.m into town and 2.00p.m. back, three times a week though it seems to have been stopped since I went away. Mind you, it only had the same three women on it each time. All my tasks for the day are done, apart from trudging upstairs with the bag of wet washing. Climbing stairs is still my most difficult challenge and the set here are particularly high so I'll leave that until bedtime. Meanwhile some will dry by the stove.Shopping is done, just one shop and then fuel for the car. Now I've got a saucepan of bolognese meat bubbling in the oven and potatoes cooling down. I like to sauté potatoes rather than have them freshly boiled. Birdies are fed, stove vacuumed out and dishwasher emptied. I am now sitting down ready to watch five episodes of Father Brown with a cup of coffee and a piece of cake.

Hi Ya chums a bit of a hit and miss day today I was up bright and early and made a batch of melting moments for eldest DD when she comes tomorrow morning for coffee and a natter. They cooked beautifully .Then youngest DD texted and said could I make a Victoria sponge cake for tomorrow as I go there for dinner and usually take something with me Not a problem I said the oven was on so I duly whipped up the four egg large sponge cake from the BBC recipe site as there are four/five people in her house at various times. Popped it in the oven and took out to decant and fill with butter cream and strawberry jam and found one tin although cooked on top the middle bit was still uncooked Grrr, so at the moment I am trying to decide where to make just one more single layer to top the cooked one or cover the layer thats partially cooked with foil and chuck it back in the oven My oven has a mind of its own I think its such a waste if I just bin it .
So I have my fingers crossed as I have returned it to the oven covered in foil ,and see how it cooks If I'm not happy with it maybe the local birds will enjoy a layer of victoria sponge and I'll just cook another layer.or I may trim the nice bits off first and turn them into a trifle base and they can have the middle bit. I must admit I'd not used the recipe before and everything is on a larger scale 4 eggs 200 gms flour, butter, caster sugar etc, I know my oven can be a bit temperamental and its so annoying knitted another 18" of my great granddaughters scarf last night and I'm hoping to get it finished tomorrow. I had to knit two the same for the little girls one longer than the other
Everyone seems to be so productive and sitting here with my cuppa I'm looking at the dust on the TV I must do that before eldest DD arrives as she is hawkeyed when it comes to dust bless her, because one of my arms doesn't work very well beacuse of Lymphodema and a damaged rotor cuff injury in my shoulder (had a fall about 18 months ago and its torn and can't be repaired) if the dust is above my shoulders or below my knees it can stay there
but she is a good lass and I know she will reach the bits I can't get to.
Right must get on and sort this blooming victoria sponge problem out .

P.S. The pukka pie was ....OK but I don't think I would actually buy one myself I am too critical when it comes to pastry and although (it was chicken and mushroom )it wasn't bad I'm not a great lover of shop bought pies ,but as I never bought it I'm not too fussed

GERS my bus ride into town this morning was quite a sad one. Just the same three musketeers on it both going down and back up and one of them had bad news to share. A lady who I have known since I was in my teens passed away this week - quietly and unexpectedly in her chair. Her husband died at the beginning of the pandemic (not of Covid) and she never seemed to accept it so I think she would be ready to leave us.
When I got over the brow to totter down to the bus stop what a beautiful sight I had in front of me. We were enjoying a beautiful but frosty start to the day up here and across the valley Ilkley Moor was bathed in sunshine and topped with blue sky but down in the bottom it was dense fog. and as we descended the hill into town we were met with a right pea souper! We certainly had the best of the weather up here.
NAN I hope all went well with your scan and the result isn't an alarming one. SCARLET I must have cross posted with you and missed your news on the positive tests for you and DH. Most folk seem to be getting over the Omicron variant with only very mild or no symptoms at all so I hope you are one of the lucky ones. I am like you, I keep asking myself how I have managed to go 2 years without contracting it.
Enjoy the rest of the day folks if you can xx

Afternoon everyone
Just having a nice peaceful browse on here and a cuppa while little one is napping. We've been into town this morning - to the library where she chose her books and then made a penguin with sequins - she loves it when they have craft activities to do. We went to the cafe for lunch and had a browse round the charity shops - we managed to get three new to us jigsaws - two 20 piece ones and a 45 piece - several of hers are too easy for her now. She seems to have an eye for jigsaws and realises she needs to turn the pieces round to make them fit.
There was a loud thud and screams at 5 this morning - she'd fallen out of my bed! I didn't know she was there till she fell out! She must have climbed in quietly at some time during the night - she's never done it without waking me before. Bless her she was attached to her oxygen and had carried her milk machine through too - all without disturbing me.
Got a small chicken in M and S for just £1.50 last night, so I've just put that in the oven to roast - I might have it with chips and curry sauce tonight and rice tomorrow.
Both nice and easy.
Well I can hear a little voice so I'll go up and get her sorted - DD finishes work at 4 so will pick her up on the way home. She's working again tomorrow so I said I'd quite like some peace when she's done for today!
Scarlet and Redruby - hope you're both feeling ok. We have several children with it at nursery but no adults yet.
Take cae everyone11 -

well the middle bit of the top layer of sponge eventually cooked ,but I wasn't too happy with it so trimmed round the edhes and that will go into a trifle tomorrow and the middle bit will be a treat for the birds tomorrow as well so it won't go to waste, but I had to make another layer to finish off DDs sponge cake so quickly whipped one up and its ooking now in the oven and fingers crossed it will be fine I've chucked the lamb chops in a small tin in the oven as well, no point having it on and only using half so it will be an early dinner for me tonight. The mash defrosted OKand the veg won't take long to cook. so all the things I planned to do today have gone a bit wrong, but no matter tomorrow is another day
have a good evening everyone what ever you are doing I plan to finish off DGGD's scarf tonight
Cheers chums
