Hi all,
I've just bought a 2012 Ford Fiesta. The car came with a 3 month warranty with Handler Protect. I paid £100 to extend the warranty to 2 years. I have heard that these extended warranties aren't worth the paper they are written on. Has anyone had experience of this company and/or can recommend an alternative company?

Thanks.

  • A two year warranty that cost £100 will definitely not be worth the paper it’s written on.
  • I have an extended warranty direct from Peugeot.
Making a claim was a nightmare.
Dealer has to tell them what’s wrong, on my claim dealer lied.
I had to prove them wrong, which I did and then the claim went through.
    Washers stopped spraying the screen.
Dealer said after diagnosis jets blocked so not covered.
Truth is the pipe was split, pipe was covered so forced warranty to make them fix it.
£250 repair, don’t know why they did not want the job.
They have so many get out clauses.

"A two year warranty that cost £100 will definitely not be worth the paper it’s written on." ON A 10 YEAR OLD CAR !!!!

I bet there was £50 commission on that, the other £50 will be taken up by them answering the phone and saying "Sorry not covered"

Alternatively you could say it was only worth the paper it was written on :)

When you think what could go wrong with a 10 year old car and the potential costs then £100 isn't going to get you very far unfortunately. Hopefully it's a good car and none of those things will happen but if you're relying on the warranty to cover you for work then it might be a good idea to put some money aside..

Maybe the £100 warranty does have some use ... but has a claim limit of £100. 🙄

(I recall reading another thread where someone paid £1000 for a warranty - which had a claim limit of £1000).

  • Handler underwrite their own policies and thus avoid all the regulations from the insurance ombudsman. They insist you identify the actual part at fault, provide photos, provide evidence and all within 30 days of claim. In the case of a gearbox, as was my experience, they insisted the box be stripped and a written report be produced along with photos. The fault was identified, by ear and driving, by 4 garages without need to dismantle. Handler would not accept this, knowing the cost to me of having box dismantled would exceed cost of repair so I would not claim. No guarantee they would honour the repair even aftermy paying out for all that. Trustpilot is full of unhappy owners - but very happy dealers as cost is so low to them. Not worth the paper.
  • I have a "warranty" from this company. It specifically includes in writing, emissions. However a problem with emissions, that has developed on my van, and has been diagnosed as such, is not included. So they deny the claim.

I await an explanation of what part of emissions is included, If faulty emissions parts are not included?

If you have the misfortune to have one of these policies, I'm sorry.

BUT IF YOU ARE THINKING OF TAKING ONE OUT....DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY....

THE SAYING, LENDING YOU AN UMBRELLA, BUT TAKING IT BACK IF ITS RAINING SPRINGS TO MIND.

I have a Peugeot warranty (6 yr old Peugeot) and had to claim at the last MOT under the MOT cover as the rear discs and pads had had it. The Peugeot dealers sorted it out and replaced the discs under warranty before they'd even told me. I paid for the pads. Saved me £300, which is pretty much the annual premium. A 2 year warranty for £100 isn't going to be gold plated.
