Chimney stack

We are in the process of buying a house and the homebuyers report has advised that there are a number of issues with the chimney. It said that the chimney stack needed repointing, that the flaunching needed replacing and that the chimney pot needed covering.

Please can anyone advise a ballpark figure of how much this may cost? Are we talking hundereds or thousands as I have no idea.

The house is a typical 1920s detached with the stack.

Also who do you approach for this type of work, roofers? builders or are they chimney experts?

All chimney work I've had done was by roofers. I suspect low hundreds is more likely
  • We had a quote for same sort of work in SW England was £300 without scaffolding, adding scaffolding is going to more maybe double?

Traditionally it's the bricklayer's job, but they are more likely to want a scaffold. I have done it from a ladder, but to do a decent job I would use a scaffold now. Roofers tend to be more used to working off a ladder so they are often asked do the work.
