Again just for interest I looked (I have a Platinum card taken out a couple of years ago for a large-ish 0% purchase) and I do have the option to change mine to a Rewards card. So the option to change does exist for some.

I also have the 0.5% card (used to be Goldfish) and used to put everything on it - this year I am using my Chase debit card (to get 1%) instead.

I was able to change my Platinum Balance Transfer card to the Rewards card, and my friend was able to change his Freedom Rewards card too.  

As previously discussed it may well be best to stick with the old rewards card if you have it, as it offers 0.5% cashback instead of 0.25%.  Can anyone with old rewards card confirm if it is fee free when used abroad too?

It isn't - Curve offers a way of negating that though.
