I TOOK OUT MY VIRGINMEDIA CONTRACT IN MAY 2021 FOR 18 MONTHS AND GOT AN EXCELLENT DEAL.  THEY HAVE NOW EMAILED ME TO TELL ME THEY WILL BE A PRICE INCREASE OF £4 ON MY BILL FROM 1ST MARCH 2022.  I AM SO ANGRY!  CAN THEY DO THIS IF YOUR STILL IN A CONTRACT.  THE EMAIL STATED I COULD CANCEL MY PACKAGE?

Typing in all capitals is considered shouting.  Please don't shout :)

Yes you can cancel because the increase is not in your terms and conditions.  And yes they can.  Prices can change at any time, and you get the 30 day opt out thing.  So if you want out, now is the time to do it.  If you don't, then... well stay where you are.
  • Ok no shouting  :)  Think I will cancel and shop around before it goes up.  Thank you

Trouble is that Virgin and other companies say you can have X for £10 and then word it so it is £15 with a £5 discount for a year or so.  Then they put the price up to £25 but you still get your £5 discount in the deal so end up paying £20!!!!
    Really sneaky of them!

Just be careful that new contracts for most providers now include for an annual price increase - typically CPI + 3.9%

  • VM have been doing this for years. I was with them for the best part of 20 and stinging existing customers for more whilst offering newbies reasonable deals is the MO.

Eventually I left; 16 months on I'd consider returning as a "newbie" as TalkTalk is unreliable.
No man is worth crawling on this earth.

So much to read, so little time.

OP first decide what services you require . Then look around before phoning VM cancellations .

They emailed me saying mine won’t go up until my fixed price offer is up ( March 2023 )
    We shall see.
  • I just phoned "cancellation and retentions department directly on 0800 952 2277" per the last MSE email tips and not only got the price hike cancelled but, by renewing the contract for another 18 months, got another £15/month off of the price.
