Car insurance renewal rip off

shop 14 days before your renewal, any less and the quotes are higher
why?.....cos they think theyuve got you over a barrel0 -
your age is the problem, im 69 and paying £600 tpft on a 1.7 sportage worth £6000john_holmes said:I have renewed with LV, £30 cheaper than last year, my loyalty reward, but in their follow-up satisfaction questionnaire I have asked them on what customer criteria do they base their TV advert that can give a very unlikely £219 p/a premium, in my case I am recently widowed, 77 year old, clean licence, no claims for way over 15 years, most unlikely to reach the 4,000 max mileage, car [Citroen C3 Picasso Diesel] locked in a garage overnight, brought out a couple of times a week for shopping yet the renewal is £503, could this be called a rip-off, it is in my book, PS comparison sites were similar so no point changing0 -
I'm sure I've read that 21 days beforehand is the sweet spot for cheapest quotes.maxmycardagain said:shop 14 days before your renewal, any less and the quotes are higher

Its also murkier than that. They must not do that per market channel.motorguy said:
They are not allowed to quote you more than they would for a new customer. Thats not the same as it has to be the same or cheaper.Nicvodka said:Just had renewal quote for car insurance with Admiral. What a rip off. Its more than last years. Thought it was supposed to be the same or cheaper. Decided to go elsewhere. Just be careful with renewal quotes. Please shop around u will save money which we all want. Just wanted to warn people.
So an emailed quote can be a different price to an online quote which can be a different price to a telephone quote.0 -
77? So your reactions and senses are not what they were, and ain't going to be getting any better.john_holmes said:I have renewed with LV, £30 cheaper than last year, my loyalty reward, but in their follow-up satisfaction questionnaire I have asked them on what customer criteria do they base their TV advert that can give a very unlikely £219 p/a premium, in my case I am recently widowed, 77 year old, clean licence, no claims for way over 15 years, most unlikely to reach the 4,000 max mileage, car [Citroen C3 Picasso Diesel] locked in a garage overnight, brought out a couple of times a week for shopping yet the renewal is £503, could this be called a rip-off, it is in my book, PS comparison sites were similar so no point changing
4000 miles/yr? Not a lot, less than average, so you'll be less proficient with your car and with driving in differing conditions than the average.
Garage? Probably only a matter of time before a scrape occurs.
That's why your premium is not £219. Although £503 doesn't seem too bad.0 -
Why are you buying TPFT? Have you quoted for comp @maxmycardagain? Its often the case that TPFT is more expensive than Compmaxmycardagain said:

That does seem a lot. I am the same age (well, I'm 78) as you and paid £265 (net of a £20 rebate for prompt payment). I have had a clean licence since 1963. My car is kept on a driveway overnight, located in Somerset, £300 excess. What's more, I have an electric car (Fiat 500e) which are supposed to be more expensive to insure.john_holmes said:I have renewed with LV, £30 cheaper than last year, my loyalty reward, but in their follow-up satisfaction questionnaire I have asked them on what customer criteria do they base their TV advert that can give a very unlikely £219 p/a premium, in my case I am recently widowed, 77 year old, clean licence, no claims for way over 15 years, most unlikely to reach the 4,000 max mileage, car [Citroen C3 Picasso Diesel] locked in a garage overnight, brought out a couple of times a week for shopping yet the renewal is £503, could this be called a rip-off, it is in my book, PS comparison sites were similar so no point changing0
