Hi
We will be renting soon and I'm told I need photo I.D not just my husband anymore.
I have no passport and I don't drive and lost my provisional years ago.
I saw online about the citizencard it says its suitable for different things one being to rent.
Can anyone confirm any experience of this?

Why not just get a replacement driving licence? Driving licences and passports are much more widely accepted than anything else.1

Passports are expensive when I don't plan to travel again anytime soon.
Guess I need to think about it.0 -

A passport is expensive but its for 10 years so a tenner a year (I think). I had to bite the bullet in the end. When you consider the hundreds, maybe thousands you'll be spending on a deposit, its not quite as significant. And its very very useful.., no more worries when ID is mentioned lol. I'm surprised how often I need mine.0

Ok I'm applying for a passport now. Thanks guys!2

Maybe the answer (not for the OP, for the country) is to to introduce ID cards (as most countries do).(waits for response....!)I'm sure the government would supply these free!1

@veggielove Glad you’re able to get a passport. Probably best option for you in the long run.
However it is quite unjust that people have to pay what for some is a substantial amount of money for what is effectively an id card when they’re not ever going to be able to afford a car or a foreign holiday

@canaldumidi Lol I’m biting
My objection was always that I could leave my front door on the latch, pop to the end of my road (possibly in my slippers!) to get a bottle of milk from the shop and be prosecuted for not carrying my identity card.
Cue the black’n’white war films . . .

Cue the black’n’white war films . . .Depends whether they also make it compulsory to carry it. That's a separate decision......Now, what was this thread about?2
