strange adapter issues

I have a dell adapter, which will work while i'm at work but wont work when i'm at home. Strange or what?

I know this is the case, as the little green light on it wont work on live mains at my house.

I'm not aware of any electrical problems at my property.... any ideas what might be causing it? Its annoying because i cant charge my laptop at home!

Have you tried all the outlets in the house? The only thing it can be is the sockets are faulty or the plug itself is faulty

thy it in another plug in your house. seen this before where the pins of the plug are just too long (or socket connections too short) so the socket contacts touch the plastic instead of the pins.

Have you tried pulling the plug out a tiny fraction?

try it in someone elses house too, as if it does not work there then it could be the PSU.
GOOGLE it before you ask, you'll often save yourself a lot of time. ;)

You might have an earth leak - does your home have newer auto-trip fuses or the old melty wire ones? If the old type, you should have your home wiring tested for earth leakage. Newer type would probably have tripped automatically if you have leak.

Also, at home, do you connect the Lappy to anything else before plugging in the AC adaptor? Again, the possibility of a loop that cuts out the power supply.
  • Thanks for the replies all!

Actually, i think this is a problem with the adapter. I did some sanity checks last night, and got my housemate to try and get it to work too around the house. I even got the multimeter out to test the fuse.

This morning at work its stopped working completely ... so I think a replacement is needed!!!
