MBNA and account closure

If you want to close an account with Mbna, would they do it with a phone call or do you have to write to them?

Comments

  • Used to work for them years ago - you have to write in I'm afraid, thats what you will also be informed if you ring them up.
  • Funnily enough I closed my MBNA account today.... over the phone. I paid the outstanding interest due on next statement (a few quid) and then they said they will send out a confirmation letter today and I would receive 1 more final statement showing the zero amount and that would be that.

Thanks, so I suppose I'll have to wait till after Christmas and the new year to get the replacements for my 2 Abbey/Mbna cards to cancel one of them. I won't have time to cancel one account to only receive one Mbna Rewards card instead of 2 before they send them.
  • I closed mine over the phone recently.

HeadInSand, my post supposed to be before yours, you are too quick for me.
If I can close one of the account before they send the new cards, good, I do not need 2 same Mbna reward cards as I have an Abbey/Santander card.
CheekyLittleMonkey, how many years was that?
  • You can close it on phone, 0800 7831116 Mon-Fri 8am-7pm

:rotfl: My, how times change. About 10yrs ago, in Stansfield House, Chester. Sorry for the duff information...shouldv'e guessed really, thinking about it.
  • Stansfield house?! Long time ago! Now up to 7 different areas!
  • You can call them, and they will probably offer a retention deal :)

I have closed one of my account today. Easy peasy.
Now it should show as closed on my online account, but I suppose I'll have to wait tomorrow for the system to catch up.
Will get a letter of confirmation in 10 days.
No retention deal for me, I just don't need 2 same accounts with one provider. But I am quite happy that I've closed the account with £11000+ credit limit and kept the one with a lower credit limit, as Abbey wouldn't lower the credit limit on my Santander card.
